And it all....comes down.....to this. Jive Talking vs "I picked the wrong week" are two of the most definitive pieces of this movie, both have stood the test of time and still stand out as hilarious even after all these years. Substance abuse and race relations are just as prevalent in our society today as it was 35 years ago when Airplane came out. So making jokes about drinking booze and people using funny words still works beautifully. I bet you'd have a pretty good time if you took some amphetamines and tried to talk jive. Sadly, that won't be happening here, since only one of these will become our Tournament of Rad CHAMPION.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Overall Reason Why This Movie is Rad is...

It's the perfect balance of sincere and silly, just enough based in reality yet slightly not of this world. We kind of understand what they're saying, but not really so of course we need subtitles and translations for two normal guys flying on an Airplane. The fact that this scene is a relic from decades ago (no one speaks jive anymore), but still relevant (I still really don't 'get' cool slang when I hear it) makes it the biggest, baddest, raddest moment in Airplane!
